Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is fun ride that recaptures some of the magic of the first film but not all of it.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the story of our unlikely heroes and picks up where Vol. 1 left off. The plot focuses primarily on Peter Quill’s back story but all of the characters have their own stories within this larger framework.
First the good. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments. From Baby Groot to the banter between Peter and Rocket the humor was like a continuation of Vol. 1. I felt like I was right back with old friends. The dramatic elements of Vol. 2 were spot on. The plot was fairly emotionally driven and I found myself feeling the right things at the right times.
Now the bad. I felt as if a few of the jokes from Vol. 1 were just recycled into a different package for Vol. 2. Additionally I found Drax to be somewhat tiresome in some of the scenes, while in others I thought he was hilarious. Over all I felt as if they were trying just a little too hard to make Vol. 2 feel like Vol. 1.
Should you spend your hard earned money on a ticket to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Yes.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is not the next great American drama but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think you will too.
I give Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
4 out of 5 stars.
